3 simple steps to having a more conscientious and sustainable wardrobe

With the arrival of Autumn comes the perfect excuse to organise our clothes. Our wardrobes often hide a lot more than items of clothing; they’re full of habits, impulse buys, and things that no longer represent who we are. With the temperatures getting colder, it’s time to swap out our summer clothing to our winter clothing, and it’s the ideal moment to stop and think about what we really need.

From Good Karma Projects, we want to help you have a more conscientious and sustainable style (not just for your clothing but also for your life).

Step 1: Revise with intention

Take out all your clothes and evaluate piece by piece. Ask yourself:

  • Do I really use it?

  • Is it in good condition or can I repair it?

  • Could another person use it?

Seperate the clothing intentionally. This will help you see how much we are capable of accumulating without realising.

Step 2: Donate, exchange, or transform

  • Donate the clohting that’s in good condition to local asociations, refuges, or solidarity shops.

  • Organize an exchange: an afternoon with friends to bring clothing items you no longer use. Exchanging clothies is social, fun and reduces the environmental impact you have on the planet.

  • Repair or transform forgotten clothing items: repairing or dyeing the item can give them a new story.

Step 3: Maintain a conscious wardrobe

After organising, commit yourself to a more responsible consumption:

  • Buy less and with a purpose.

  • Opt for second-hand clothing or sustainable brands.

  • Take care of what you have so it can last longer

Why do it?

Every kilo of clothing that is reused avoid approximately 25kg de CO₂ compared to buying new clothing, according to a study by the UPC. Reorganising your wardrobe helps to reduce your footprint and promote a lifestyle that is simpler, more functional and sustainable.

Give your clothing items a second life and begin autumn with less baggae and more clarity.
