We are making recycled surf wax combs out of plastic bottles cap! Can you imagine the infinite potential of waste materials and unwanted products?
It is known that plastic has become one of the worst enemies of the environment. This makes us think about what the possible solutions could be. We need to reduce the use of plastic. We need to end our use with single-use products. Finally, we need to recycle the existing plastic and transform this into higher valued items that won’t come back again to nature in a short time. This is known as UPcycling.
Upcycling, sometimes known as creative reuse, is the process of transforming by-products, waste materials, useless, or unwanted products into new materials or products of better quality and environmental value. And that is what we do in one of our favourite workshops called “SeaForm: transform beach plastics into new products”.
Seaform is a project from Flo and Brett, an ocean-loving industrial designer and Brett a wave–obsessed sustainability consultant whose aim is to provide local communities with the tools and knowledge to up-cycle plastic pollution into goods for ocean-minded travelers.
Our friends from SeaForm work with coastal communities to create a value chain and help people see the value of waste. Additional to this they’ve also shared with us the tools and the designs to make surf wax combs out of recycled plastic! So we can run some workshops and introduce the powerful idea of upcycling to all surfers in every location.
This is only one easy example of how to create a valuable product out of plastic waste. We are making recycled surf wax combs! Can you imagine the infinite potential of waste materials and unwanted products?
Upcycling is a creative, sustainable and useful solution to fight against environmental damage.
